What's this blog about anyway?

To live a full life... A whole life, a growing, breathing flourishing life. What does that mean? After all when we wake up each day the air insists on coming in and out of our lungs our heart continues to beat, regardless of what we put into our mouths, or how we interact with the people or world around us. So we are therefore... alive. But, how rich is that life? Is it growing? Are we growing, reaching stretching, learning? What is the state of our body, our minds, our emotions? Let me preface, and make it clear right now I am not a Dr. I am not an expert. I am not going to give you a magic solution to solve all your health issues. Ok, disclaimer out of the way... But, I, like you, have learned a lot from the thing we call life here on this revolving sphere and I am going to share some of those things here in this blog.

I recently lost some weight and had some friends ask me to teach them what was involved, that is how this blog was planted. I felt  that here would be a good way to reach them and any others who have a similar desire. So in this blog I will be sharing information on what I have learned from my own research about healthy nutrition and how what we eat effects us. I do not subscribe to any one 'diet' ie. Atkins, Weight Watchers etc. When we talk about diet I have always been turned off. Diet is like a bad word to me, denial and control were always the first things that came to my mind. Most diets tell people what to eat, how much and when. Maybe that works for some other people, but I personally am too independent for that approach. What I do is study food- what is good and bad for our bodies and why. I found out that you can EAT great tasting food WHILE loosing weight. I have researched different diets and different cultures to understand what helps them to be healthy and have lives of longevity. I will share those things and let you pull what you like and decide if there is something to apply to you.

Something my friend said to me jokingly was, they needed to learn 'to eat to live, not live to eat'. I giggled a little, but then I thought about that and wished I could have slammed the breaks on the misconception that healthy eating and living is not pleasurable. I find the opposite is true. Healthy eating and living is empowering and full of flavor and yes- life. Unhealthy eating and living is draining, heavy and debilitating.

Also I believe that when we are discussing our health habits we need to look at our whole selves and why we hold onto emotional weight as well and how our emotional weight effects our physical weight. Those issues need to be faced if one wants to be successful at having a whole, healthy, nutritious- blooming life. Otherwise our emotional weeds will choke out any progress we try to make. So some of the posts will address emotional health as well.

I hope you can use it all to strengthen your life and help you to BLOOM!
